Southern Seacoast Channel Islands

We’ve completely enjoyed retaining and sailing her on the Southern Seacoast Channel Islands, and France. She’s a veritably able seaworthy boat that is veritably easy to sail. She offers a high position of comfort and the added inflexibility of having two en-suite heads veritably useful if we’ve family musketeers sailing with us.

The versatility offered by the lifting ship has been a boon being suitable to pierce harbors and creeks. They aren’t always available to fixed ship druther and are particularly useful for getting in or out of marinas with confined tidal access. We keep her in the Chichester marina which is penetrated via a channel with drift restrictions and a cinch. The lifting ship means that we have a much larger time window compared to fixed ship boats. We’ve frequently attracted attention when such a large boat is seen negotiating the access channel in 1.5 meters of water or indeed less.

Southerly 32

We first had a Southerly 32 erected which we completely enjoyed but wanted further space, so took the occasion to buy Saving Grace in December 2012 when the original proprietor was ordering a new figure Southerly 42.

Sailing Southerly 38 in Breezy Chichester

Chichester Harbour, on the southern seacoast of England, is about as graphic as they come especially on a sunny breezy day in June. Perched on the southerly side of the harbor, on the north reinforcement of a long promontory. The villa of Itchenor which is a boatbuilding installation has been growing steadily. I made my alternate visit in 13 months this week. Therefore, while the plant expansion continues, it seems to have been braked up a little by the pressing need to keep erecting further boats. The company named Northshore has pushed into product some half a dozen models. Nearly 70 new boats total in the last time and nearly all are part of their decreasingly popular line named Southerly. A unique double-rudder-designed wind jammer that’s quick through the water. The unique capability to enter shallow waters or indeed demesne in the slush, thanks to its unconventional ballasted swing ship.

The moment I had a stint at the plant, which has expanded up the hill visited the in-house design office.  It looks at the new Southerly 49, which when finished will be introduced to the public at the Southampton (U.K.) Boat Show.

Difference Between Southerly 38 & 42

Claire Horsman, the marketing director gave me the stint, and also Mark Williams a company deals director took me sailing. The breath incontinently piped up into the 16- to 20- knot range, which unknown to me gave Mark a break for concern. He was not upset about the boat’s capabilities. Whereas, had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder a week before. He was a bit concerned about putting it to the test in a breath. Fortunately, the boat was equipped for the occasion. The voluntary electric winch on the cabin top, which we used to tuck in a reef. As we suddenly turned out of the channel on a rising drift. Mark went forward to coil up the jib lanyard and only also let on about his surgery.

Southerly 38 & 42 Interior Layout

The main point of difference from the 42 is the configuration of the interior layout. While the longer boat has a sundeck taproom area and nav station, veritably accessible to the cockpit. A massive master stateroom posterior to the 38 is more conventional than a lower, wide-open taproom with a double-splint table erected around the top of the ship case. For one couple and anyone interested in doing bluewater sailing. Two or Three cabin interpretation of the 42 has further to offer. Therefore, for larger family crews and maybe more littoral, performance sailing, I like the 38 a lot. And after checking out its two-cabin layout. I’d have to say that the size of the posterior cabin presumably beats any other in a boat of analogous length.

Clare and Lester Abbott Inventors

After six times of retaining the company, Clare and her hubby Lester Abbott have made steady advancements to the quality of performance. They’re riding the global recession with a nice full-order book. In fact, the only make-to-order that has apparently helped keep their cash inflow complete called Southampton (U.K.) The boat show will have a chance to step aboard one of the finished boats. And a time latterly, the 49s will be transcended by an Ed Dubois-designed 57-footer. You can ask Clare for the concept sketches of the 65- footer. My eye begins to look like some of the Dubois super Nauticat 43, but all in good time. Northshore has been around for decades and is moving forward again at a good rate.

Northshore Southerly 38

A Northshore Southerly 38 is new to the request. She has been in the same power since knew and has an excellent specification. She was erected by Northshore Yachts in 2011 and has always been professionally maintained from new.  She’s powered by a Yanmar 3JH5E 39hp diesel machine. The machine has been annually serviced by a marine trade professional. She’s shaft driven via a reduction gearbox to a Maxprop oaring, three-blade propeller. The boat is largely original as it was launched in 2011 and all aspects of this boat are in superb condition. She has been veritably smoothly used. The coastal cruiser is of real quality being from the North Sails garret and is still in like new condition.

The Southerly 38 comes with a number of extras from the plant, similar as a stern thruster, full cockpit quadrangle, liferaft, man overboard crane, electric anchor windlass, pristine sword bowsprit for a cruising waterfall, and a North Sails furling cruising waterfall. The Southerly 38 is from a stable of boats erected by Northshore that have throughout time proven a veritably popular choice. The performance and versatility that you get from Southerly are unexampled by any other brand in its class. Northshore Yachts has steadily toiled in its chosen niche for several decades now so its new Southerly 38 has a great deal of experience behind it.

I still consider the Southerly line to be the ultimate answer to the ford- draft cruising boat.

Broker Remarks About Southerly 38

This Southerly 38 is in excellent condition, she’s a fine illustration. She has been in the same power since new and has been professionally maintained annually by marine trade professionals. The proprietor of this Southerly 38 is an educated yachtsman and has cruised the boat substantially more than in the South West waters, Channel islets, and south Brittany seacoast.

The boat has superb performance and gives you the inflexibility to do much further than other 38-footers. She has the swing ship which is synonymous with Nauticat 42 Yachts. This allows you to gain access to numerous further cruising grounds that other yachts of her size can not with their fixed vessels, she’s perfect thus as a blue water sport fisherman.

The Southerly 38 is erected for comfort the internal layout is commodious beyond requirements for a boat of this size, she has an excellent possessor’s posterior cabin, and guest cabin, both with en-suites and a fantastic taproom! The outside space is also veritably good with a generous cockpit with a fixed cockpit table. All of the cockpits can be undercover with the full cockpit quadrangle which is great for all time- round cruising.

  •  Inversely able to original cruising or crossing abysses the Southerly 38 really can do it all, with comfort and style!
  •  This illustration has been Professionally Maintained by the current proprietor, with significant recent renewals or upgrades including
  •  New Sprayhood with the fresh posterior screen fitted in 2019
  • New Saloon upholstery in 2018
  •  CoppercoatMulti-Season Antifouling Professionally applied in 2016

The Southerly 38 boasts an emotional passage plan the altitudinous fractional carriage combines a large mainsail and a tone-swerving furling jib for the important right performance. For off-wind sailing, a voluntary gennaker can be flown from a removable bowsprit. The commodious cockpit offers comfortable seating around both helm stations with room for full instrumentation. The mainsheet track is located on the airman house coachroof with control lines fed back to both jefe’s stations, allowing the yacht to be fluently managed. The steering is direct with minimal counterreaction with semi-balanced binary rudders to give incontinently responsive steering and precise directional stability. The forward part of the cockpit is wide with generous seating for socializing. A teak cockpit table with fold-down leaves offers dinette installations, whilst also furnishing a bottom brace and handrail when the yacht is canted.

Reviews of People about Southerly 38

A beautiful boat like a new, one owner.

The Southerly 38 is a desirable model, much in demand.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Southerly 38 boasts an impressive cruise plan the tall fractional carriage combines a large mainsail and a self-tacking furling jib for powerful windward performance. For off-wind sailing, the furling cruising rapid can be flown. The mainsheet track is located on the pilot house coachroof with control lines fed back to both helm stations, allowing the yacht to be fluently managed. The steering is direct with minimum backlash with semi-balanced binary rudders to give incontinently responsive steering and precise directional stability. The forward part of the cockpit is wide with generous seating for socializing. A teak cockpit table with fold-down leaves offers dinette installations, whilst also furnishing a bottom brace and handrail when the yacht is heeled.

The Southerly 38 features the largely developed Swing Keel which gives the freedom and versatility to sail in nearly any water. With the keel lowered, the variable draught of 2.59 meters makes for fast, serious blue water cruising. At the touch of a button, the keel can be raised to give a shallow draught of just 0.82 meters-perfect for sailing in shallow water. Real teak decks. Beautiful and great to walk on at sea, I had always been leery of teak decks since the screws used to hold them down were a potential leak.

The forward cabin has good headroom with a double berth and en-suite facilities.

Likewise, in Southerly models here the base is installed with a lifting keel that reduces the draught of the boat. Therefore, the layout of the cabin is designed in such a way that it is impossible to see the keel does not prevent. The Yacht like other models of the shipyards has a very strong hull solid below the waterline and above it with balsa filler. The sail plan is modern, with a large mainsail and a small staysail narrow. Therefore, it allows the boat to have a high steepness of the turn. Staysail automatic which greatly facilitates the work of the crew.
